Goodna's 2nd League International in 50 years

The Mighty Goodna Eagles are flying mighty high today with former junior player just 3 years ago, Israel Folau becoming Goodna's second Rugby League International player in 50 years.

Israel Folau made his international debut today with a gutsy game in Wellington.

He is pictured at left after scoring the first of his two tries in the 16th minute of the game.

Folau played brilliantly in Australia's 58-0 whitewash of New Zealand.

After the game, the 18-year old was hailed as the new Mal Meninga.

Folau scored 21 tries for Melbourne Storm in 27 club games this year.

Folau becomes Goodna's second Rugby League International after Noel Kelly played for Australia against New Zealand in 1959.

Ipswich City Council honoured Noel Kelly in 2003 by naming a street in his honour in Goodna.

Noel Kelly (pictured at right with the ball) was known as the "Hard Man" of Rugby League during his playing career.

Goodna Councillor Paul Tully said Israel Folau was an inspiration to all all young kids in the Ipswich area.

"He is Goodna's second Rugby League International in 50 years and we are mighty proud of him today.

"The Goodna Club is almost a hundred years old and we salute Israel Folau who has emerged as the new Mal Meninga of Australian Rugby League."

Cr Tully said plans were underway to recognise Israel Folau with a street to be named in his honour in Goodna.

"This will serve as a permanent reminder to all the kids in the local area of what you can achieve in life with effort and determination," Cr Tully said.

Hungry Jack's coming to Goodna

Work has commenced on the new Hungry Jack's restaurant at Goodna.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale (left of picture) and Cr Paul Tully recently inspected the site of the new facility.

It will be located adjacent to the Ipswich Motorway near the traffic lights at the Church Street underpass, in the forecourt of the Caltex Service Station.

The area has been fenced off during the construction of the $1.5 million facility.

The Ipswich City Council recently signed off on the final approval of the new Hungry Jack's at Goodna which will provide part-time employment for hundreds of local young people.

The building is estimated to be completed within 3 - 4 months.

The Goodna Hungry Jack's will complement the existing restaurant in the Ipswich suburb of Booval.
